Bollywood star Ranveer Singh, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Dhurandhar, has finally responded to the mounting backlash over his imitation of Rishab Shetty’s iconic performance in Kantara: Chapter 1. The incident took place during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa last week, sparking widespread criticism.
Earlier today, Ranveer addressed the issue on Instagram, offering an unconditional apology. “My intention was to highlight Rishabh’s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much effort it takes to deliver a scene with such intensity, and I have the utmost admiration for him,” he wrote. He further added, “I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition, and belief in our country. If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”
The controversy erupted after Ranveer, while praising Rishab Shetty’s portrayal in Kantara, reenacted the actor’s signature chant from the film. During the act, he also referred to the female deity depicted in the movie as a “ghost,” leaving the audience stunned. His remarks triggered outrage, especially among Kannada audiences, with many demanding a public apology and even threatening to block the release of Dhurandhar in Karnataka.
In the past few days, a formal complaint was also filed against the actor for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindu devotees. As the issue continued to escalate, Ranveer Singh has now broken his silence, choosing to put an end to the controversy with a heartfelt apology.
