New Delhi: The Archery Association of India on Thursday officially launched the inaugural edition of the Archery Premier League (APL) in the capital. The first season will feature six franchises with 48 players including 36 Indian and 12 international archers competing to showcase their skills.
Tollywood star Ram Charan graced the launch event and unveiled the league. Sharing his thoughts, he highlighted the deep cultural significance of archery in Indian history and expressed pride in becoming the brand ambassador of the APL. “This is the first time India is introducing an archery league, and I am honored to be part of it,” he said. Charan also recalled his portrayal of a skilled archer in the blockbuster film RRR, calling the association with the league a personal and meaningful connection.
Actor Randeep Hooda was also present at the launch. He said the APL would provide young archers with much-needed international exposure. Hooda further revealed his association with the Delhi-based franchise, Prithviraj Yodhas, expressing pride in supporting the team.
Arjun Munda, president of the Archery Association of India, stated that the league’s core mission is to bring hidden talent to light and prepare athletes for future Olympic Games. He added that a foreign coach will be appointed to train the Indian squad with the 2028 and 2032 Olympics in focus.
Ram Charan’s portrayal of Alluri Sitarama Raju in RRR, where he played an archer, earned him worldwide recognition. His association with the Archery Premier League now serves as a fitting continuation of that celebrated role.
