Rajinikanth–Kamal Haasan Reunion After 40 Years: ₹600 Crore Mega Project Stuns Industry

Nearly four decades after they last shared full-fledged screen space, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are finally coming together for a historic cinematic spectacle. The announcement of this dream collaboration has taken the industry by storm, and the reported budget is nothing short of sensational.

The much-awaited project will be officially launched on February 20 at 12:07 PM. A special poster unveiled on February 19 at 7:12 PM has already gone viral on social media. Interestingly, Kollywood insiders believe the timing is symbolic 7:12 reportedly represents Kamal Haasan’s birthday (November 7) and Rajinikanth’s birthday (December 12).

The prestigious venture is being produced by Red Giant Movies, with Raaj Kamal Films International also associated with the production. The film will be directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, who previously delivered the blockbuster Jailer. Although Lokesh Kanagaraj was initially rumored to helm the project, Nelson has officially taken charge.

Budget and Remuneration Details

Reports suggest that the film is being mounted on a massive budget exceeding ₹600 crore, making it one of the costliest Indian films ever. Rajinikanth’s remuneration alone is said to be around ₹225 crore. Details regarding the female leads are yet to be officially announced and are expected to be revealed after the formal launch.

Music for the film will be composed by Anirudh Ravichander, adding further excitement to the project.

Genre, Shoot, and Release Plans

The film is said to be a light-hearted action-comedy drama revolving around friendship, presenting both superstars in refreshing new avatars. Reports also indicate that an 80s-style retro promo featuring the duo has already been shot.

The regular shoot is expected to begin in August or September 2026, with plans to release the film as a grand Sankranti 2027 festive offering.

The poster’s powerful tagline has particularly grabbed attention: “When stars unite… you cannot take sides!” a fitting line for two icons with unparalleled fan followings.

The last time the two legends shared significant screen space was in Thillu Mullu (1981). Now, after nearly 40 years, Indian cinema is gearing up to witness one of its most iconic reunions on the big screen.
