Pooja Hegde made a much-hyped return to South cinema with Retro, starring Suriya and directed by Karthik Subbaraj. The film released on May 1 with high expectations, but it quickly disappointed audiences. Critics and moviegoers gave lukewarm responses, and box office numbers reflected that reaction.

Despite the strong cast and solid buzz, Retro didn’t manage to make an impact. Nani’s crime thriller HIT 3, which released on the same day and earned ₹43 crore on its opening, added more pressure to Retro’s underperformance.

Pooja Hegde Delivers Seven Consecutive Flops

Retro marks Pooja Hegde’s seventh flop in a row. She previously starred in big-budget projects like Radhe Shyam with Prabhas, Beast with Thalapathy Vijay, Acharya with Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan, Cirkus with Ranveer Singh, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan with Salman Khan and Venkatesh, and Deva with Shahid Kapoor.

Each of these films failed at the box office. As a result, Pooja’s market value took a serious hit in both Bollywood and South Indian industries.

Pooja Hegde’s Career Swings Between Success and Setbacks

Pooja Hegde began her Hindi film career with Mohenjo Daro opposite Hrithik Roshan. That film didn’t perform well, and her earlier Tamil and Telugu projects also struggled. The film industry once labeled her an “iron leg” because of these back-to-back failures.

However, she turned things around with DJ: Duvvada Jagannadham opposite Allu Arjun. Later, she scored a massive hit with Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo in 2020, which became her last successful film.

Pooja Hegde Eyes a Comeback with Upcoming Biggies

Even after multiple setbacks, Pooja Hegde continues to attract attention. She stays connected with her fans through Instagram, where over 27.5 million people follow her. She now chooses her roles more carefully.

Her upcoming films include Coolie with Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj, Jana Nayagan with Thalapathy Vijay and H. Vinoth, Kanchana 4 with Raghava Lawrence, and the Hindi project Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.

Film circles believe that Jana Nayagan could turn things around for her. Until then, Pooja Hegde keeps pushing for the much-needed comeback that could restore her place among the top heroines.
