Pelli Kani Prasad Review : Jokes Leni Prasad

Pelli Kani Prasad is banrkolled by K.Y. Babu, Bhanu Prakash Goud, Sukka Venkateswar Goud, and Vaibhav Reddy Muthiyala. Dil Raju’s banner has released the movie in Telugu States after gradually losing all hopes that it stands a chance. Anyways, let’s find out what the movie is like.

Telugu Funda’s reveal of the basic plot:

Meet Prasad (Sapthagiri), a hotel honcho in Malaysia, juggling room service and romance with equal flair. His money-crazy father is a gold-digging maestro, forever stalling Prasad’s wedding bells in hot pursuit of a bride who will cough up a cool two crore rupees. Fed up with the matrimonial merry-go-round, our hero Prasad takes matters into his own hands, wooing his darling Priya (Priyanka Sharma). Against all odds, they tie the knot. But, in an unexpected turn of events, wedded bliss turns into a family feud faster than you can say “dowry drama.”

Telugu Funda’s take on the performances & technical output:

  1. Sapthagiri: The comedian’s Prema Katha Chitrma act is etched in our minds. The kind of comical vulnerability he showed in the presence of the ghost in that trend-setting horror-comedy should have been exploited by this film. Alas! This film has no clarity about what it wants from the comedian.
  2. Muralidhar Goud: The DJ Tillu dad looks tired and fatigued. At times, he comes across as too incapable of muscular movements.
  3. Priyanka Sharma: The role could have been played by a proper female comedian.
  4. Others: A relatively serious artiste like Pramodini has been cast as a crazy mother. The casting is dead on arrival. Annapurnamma wanted to repeat her F2 act. Bad try! Vadlamani Srinivas, as the heroine’s deaf dad, is a Jandhyala character gone wrong. Basha is over the top. Rohini and ‘Auto’ Ramprasad, as a couple who are rival lawyers, show sparks of talent.
  5. Technical Departments: This is an amateurish film whose budget might be way less than you can imagine. A team of apprentices might have executed it.

Telugu Funda’s Analysis:

Nowadays, comedy films have become overcooked memes. They think they are cleverly stealing ideas from the memers community, only to end up embarrassing themselves. They don’t know how to make the best use of the memes that the masses have readily turned into humour tornados. From the ‘Kashta padda’ meme to a saint’s ‘Aipai!’ gasp, from the ‘Khatam.. Tata.. Bye Bye’ meme to the ‘Enti Bro, intha mata annav?’ meme, everything has been forced into the narrative. These callbacks don’t generate any fun.

References to popular events like Naatu Naatu winning an Oscar Award are so dumb that a school-going memer would have written a better version in sleep. The writing department wanted to show off its knowledge of geography too: From Burj Khalifa to the Bermuda Triangle, even geographical locations aren’t spared.

On top of a host of unoriginal jokes, the film fails to make its social relevance count. The film, at the thematic level, wants to sympathize with the male person of the 21st Century Indian. He could be a son or a son-in-law. Males in today’s Indian society have become victims of unrealistic and impossible expectations. Wives want them to make crores. Many, many men are considered sub-humans if they don’t earn in dollars. This relevant social phenomenon could have led to excellent satire. Pelli Kani Prasad, while making a superficial reference to this reality, quickly squanders away the opportunity. In fact, what happens in the climax actually undoes the coming-of-age quality the film briefly exhibits.

Telugu Funda’s Verdict:

Pelli Kani Prasad is a mess. You might have watched fifty other unoriginal comedies in recent times, but this one will put them all to shame with its barrage of frustratingly uninspired humour.
