Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and popular actor Pawan Kalyan has approached the Delhi High Court after discovering that his name and photographs were being used online without his consent. Acting on his plea, the court instructed social media platforms and digital companies to promptly take down such content once the actor submits specific links and details.
The case highlights the growing problem of identity misuse in the digital era, especially for public figures. Several Tollywood celebrities have recently sought legal remedies for similar issues. Jr NTR approached the court after finding his images being circulated across online platforms without permission. Nagarjuna secured legal protection when unauthorized photos surfaced, while Chiranjeevi obtained a court order preventing multiple accounts from misusing his name and voice. Veteran actor Mohan Babu also took action against the unauthorized use of his identity.
The trend extends beyond the Telugu film industry. Many Bollywood actors have filed cases to counter fake promotions, deepfake videos, and unauthorized merchandise featuring their name or likeness. With the rapid rise of AI tools and the viral nature of digital content, such cases have become increasingly common.
As more celebrities pursue legal action, the concept of personality rights is gaining stronger recognition in Indian law. Courts are responding swiftly and urging online platforms to act with urgency signaling a firm stance on protecting public figures from identity misuse in the digital landscape.
