‘Baahubali: The Beginning’, upon its release in theatres in July 2015, was greeted well by the Hindi audience. However, the Telugu version opened to negative talk. Many actually opined after the early morning shows that the film might become SS Rajamouli’s first flop. It is another matter that the audience slowly embraced the film and it went on to become one of the most-appreciated movies ever.
In the Netflix documentary ‘Modern Masters: S.S. Rajamouli’, Prabhas talks about the surprising contrast.
“I have this practice of telling my friends not to wake me up if my film doesn’t receive blockbuster talk. They didn’t wake me up on the release date of ‘Baahubali’. In Telugu, it was a disaster as per the audience. Our calculation was that the Telugu audience would receive the film in a bigger way than the Hindi audience,” Prabhas says in the documentary.
