In a significant move, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has announced a ban on benefit shows and ticket price hikes in the Telugu film industry. This decision follows a tragic incident at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre, where a stampede during a benefit show led to the death of a woman.
Meeting with Tollywood Representatives
On December 26, 2024, CM Reddy met with prominent figures from Tollywood to discuss this policy. The delegation, led by Telangana State Film Development Corporation (FDC) Chairman Dil Raju, included actors Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, and directors like K. Raghavendra Rao.
Government’s Stance on Benefit Shows and Ticket Pricing
During the meeting, CM Reddy emphasized that the government would no longer permit benefit shows or allow ticket price hikes. He stated that these measures aim to make cinema accessible to all sections of society and prevent incidents like the Sandhya Theatre tragedy.
Focus on Law and Order
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of maintaining law and order during film events. He warned that strict action would be taken against the use of bouncers and urged celebrities to take responsibility for controlling fan behavior.
Industry’s Role in Social Responsibility
CM Reddy called on the film industry to participate in social initiatives, including anti-drug campaigns and promoting women’s safety. He also encouraged the industry to support temple tourism and eco-tourism in Telangana, highlighting the state’s rich cultural heritage.
Industry Leaders’ Response
Veteran director K. Raghavendra Rao welcomed the government’s support and suggested organizing an International Film Festival in Hyderabad. Actor Nagarjuna expressed a desire to see Hyderabad become a global cinema hub, requesting capital incentives from the government to achieve this goal.
