Netizens say Puri Jagannadh stereotyped tribals through Ali’s character

Comedian Ali is seen as a tribal named Boka in this week’s release, ‘Double Ismart’. A sexy-crazy clan leader, his get-up has been designed to make him look as if he is a savage with no sense of dressing. He walks like a penguin and makes quirky sounds. When it comes to making crypto vulgar gestures, he becomes Ali, the actor.

Netizens are aghast at the depiction of a tribal character. In one of the scenes, as soon as he is unchained, Boka proceeds to sit in the lap of a woman against her will. From there on, he goes on a rampage, harassing anyone and everyone.

“Not only is the blatant harassment and sexual assault disgusting but Puri Jagannadh is portraying tribals as monkey/animals with those ears, sounds, and beasts who can’t control their sexual urges,” a Twitter user lamented.

While there is a rumour that the makers are planning to remove Ali’s scenes (which have nothing to do with the story), Puri Connects is yet to confirm it.
