Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2 Seals Record OTT Deal with Jio Hotstar

Akhanda 2 has generated huge buzz even before its release. The much-awaited film starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and directed by Boyapati Srinu has closed a massive digital deal that dominates Telugu cinema headlines. Trade sources confirm that Jio Hotstar acquired the OTT rights for all languages at an astonishing Rs 85 crore, outbidding Netflix and Amazon Prime.

This deal sets the highest-ever digital price for a Balakrishna film and also ranks among the biggest OTT acquisitions for any recent Telugu movie.

Why Jio Hotstar Won the Deal

Top streaming giants fought hard to grab the rights. Netflix quoted a lower price since it already holds Pawan Kalyan’s OG for the same season. Jio Hotstar outbid everyone with the highest offer and placed one key condition: the makers must release the film in theatres in December so the platform can stream it during the Sankranthi holiday season. The producers accepted the proposal immediately and sealed the Rs 85 crore deal.

New Release Date Locked

The makers originally planned to release Akhanda 2 on September 25, which would have clashed with Pawan Kalyan’s OG. They stepped away from the Dasara race to avoid the clash. With Prabhas’ The Raja Saab shifting to January 2026, the team fixed December 5, 2025 as the new target date. They will announce it officially soon. The film now enters its final post-production stage, and the team still needs to shoot one song.

What to Expect from Akhanda 2

The sequel carries massive expectations after the blockbuster success of Akhanda in 2021. That film showcased Balakrishna in a powerful dual role and introduced the fiery Aghora avatar, which created a cultural wave. Boyapati Srinu now expands the same universe in Akhanda 2.

The teaser shows a bigger scale with visuals set against the Himalayan backdrop. Actor Aadhi Pinisetty takes on the antagonist role, while Samyuktha joins as the female lead. S Thaman, who scored chartbusters for the first film, returns with another highly awaited soundtrack.

Production Backing

14 Reels Plus produces Akhanda 2 and mounts the project on a grand scale. With Balakrishna’s star power, Boyapati’s mass-action storytelling, and this record-breaking OTT deal, the film looks set to become one of the biggest Telugu releases of the year.
