Music Director GV Prakash Kumar about ‘Thangalaan’ soundscape

‘Thangalaan’, starring Chiyaan Vikram in the lead, will arrive at the cinemas on August 15th. GV Prakash Kumar has composed the music for the pan-Indian movie.

On Tuesday, the music director interacted with the media about his experience of working on the Pa.Ranjith directorial.

Highlights from the interview:

The film, in terms of scale, is akin to ‘Indiana Jones’. Since it is set in pre-independence times and the story takes place in the backdrop of a tribal inhabitant, I studied the music of Australian and African tribes to tailor my approach.

I haven’t used modern music, given the period backdrop. Instead, I crafted an original score that fits the story’s context.

About 50 days went into re-recording the music. The limited time frame was the biggest challenge. The background music is highly impactful. Love, conspiracy, conflict, and anger are the dominant themes of ‘Thangalaan’. The score was customized to bring out a wide range of emotions.

The title song and ‘Manaki Manaki’ have received a positive response in terms of engagement on digital platforms.

I am doing Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Lucky Baskhar’ and Nithiin’s ‘Robin Hood’ in Telugu. I also have two films lined up with Vyjayanthi Movies and Sri Venkateswara Creations.
