Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn’s ‘Maidaan’ was released in April. Months after its release in theatres, the biographical sports drama is in the news because the Telangana government is looking into the “alleged failure” of the makers to pay a royalty to the family of former Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. The film is based on the life of Rahim.
The family members of Rahim recently approached the administration in Hyderabad with the complaint that they have not received their dues. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has asked the concerned authorities to probe the matter and get things moving on the front.
The film is produced by a corporate entity (read Zee Studios) and others (Fresh Lime Films, Akash Chawla, Arunava Joy Sengupta, Boney Kapoor). Usually, in the Hindi film industry, when a corporate entity like Zee is involved, legal formalities are taken care of at the outset without fail. At the time of writing, the makers of ‘Maidaan’ had not issued any statement regarding the matter.
