Mahesh Babu Seeks Postponement of ED Appearance Amid Money Laundering Investigation

Tollywood star Mahesh Babu has requested the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to reschedule his questioning to a later date. Earlier, the ED summoned him to appear on April 27, 2025, at their Basheerbagh office in Hyderabad. However, Mahesh Babu sent a letter requesting a change of date because he is busy shooting for SSMB29, directed by S.S. Rajamouli.

Fresh Update: Mahesh Babu’s Letter to ED

Mahesh Babu told the ED that he could not attend the scheduled session because his film shoot keeps him fully occupied. Reports confirm that he also has filming commitments the next day. As a result, he politely asked the officials to grant him a new date. The ED has not yet announced how it will respond to his request.

Why ED Summoned Mahesh Babu

The ED started investigating suspected money laundering activities connected to two real estate firms — Surana Group and Sai Surya Developers. Mahesh Babu worked as a brand ambassador for these companies and promoted their real estate projects.

Officials found that Mahesh Babu received a total of ₹5.9 crore for his promotional activities. This amount includes ₹3.4 crore through cheque and ₹2.5 crore in cash. The cash component raised concerns among investigators about possible illegal transactions.

Bigger Picture Behind the Investigation

A week ago, ED officials raided the offices of Sai Surya Developers and Surana Group. During the searches, they uncovered illegal transactions worth nearly ₹100 crore. Investigators believe that the companies collected funds from the public through fraudulent means. They are now trying to find out if the cash payment made to Mahesh Babu connects directly to these fraudulent activities.

The investigation mainly focuses on verifying whether the cash Mahesh Babu received came from legitimate sources or formed part of the suspected money laundering operation.

Mahesh Babu’s Current Projects

Currently, Mahesh Babu continues to shoot for his highly-anticipated movie SSMB29, directed by SS Rajamouli. The film features a large international production team and top global technicians. Reports suggest that Priyanka Chopra stars opposite Mahesh Babu in this massive project.

With his tight filming schedule, Mahesh Babu requested an alternate date from the ED, and everyone now waits for the agency’s decision.
