Mahesh Babu, who stepped into the multiplex business in 2019 through a collaboration with Asian Cinemas, continues to expand his entertainment footprint. Their flagship property, AMB Cinemas in Hyderabad, has been a consistent performer for over six years. Now, the brand is set to make its mark in Bengaluru with a new AMB Cinemas outlet coming up at the iconic Kapali Theatre location.
The new property, officially named AMB Cinemas Kapali, is scheduled for a grand launch on December 16, with Mahesh Babu expected to grace the event. This Bengaluru expansion is particularly significant as it introduces South India’s first-ever Dolby Cinema. Until now, India had only one Dolby Cinema screen, located in Pune. With the Kapali installation, the country gets its second, and the South its very first Dolby Cinema experience.
Dolby Cinema is a premium, large-format technology that combines Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos with a specially engineered auditorium design, positioning it as a strong competitor to IMAX and other high-end viewing formats. AMB Kapali will house nine state-of-the-art screens, including a massive 60-foot-wide Dolby Cinema screen the second-largest of its kind in India.
Earlier this year, Dolby Laboratories revealed plans to roll out six Dolby Cinema screens across India. Pune’s City Pride was the first to launch, followed now by AMB Cinemas Bengaluru. Upcoming screens are set to open at Allu Cineplex in Hyderabad, LA Cinema in Trichy, EVM Cinemas in Kochi, and G Cineplex in Ulikkal.
In parallel, Mahesh Babu and Asian Cinemas recently announced AMB Classic, their second multiplex in Hyderabad. The seven-screen property, located at RTC X Roads, marks another step forward in the expansion of the AMB brand.
