The Andhra Pradesh government approved a special ticket price hike for Sekhar Kammula’s upcoming film Kuberaa, starting from its theatrical release on June 20, 2025. The revision will stay in effect for 10 days, allowing multiplexes and single screens across the state to increase higher-class ticket rates by up to Rs 75 plus GST.
Why Did the Andhra Pradesh Government Approve the Kuberaa Ticket Hike?
Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP, the production house behind Kuberaa, submitted a formal request for the ticket hike. The Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce backed the request and forwarded it through the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Cinematography. Responding to the request, the Andhra Pradesh government granted approval by relaxing existing norms, showcasing a more cinema-friendly and flexible approach under the new political leadership.
The government issued the order on June 19, 2025, which reflects the state’s supportive stance on films across all genres and budgets. In recent months, the government approved similar temporary price hikes for other films like Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, Thandel, Mad Square, and HIT 3, signaling a broader policy shift.
Ticket Prices Remain Unchanged in Telangana
This hike applies only to Andhra Pradesh. In Telangana, the producers chose not to apply for a price hike, so ticket prices in that state remain unchanged.
What Does the Ticket Hike Mean for Kuberaa?
Kuberaa doesn’t follow the typical path of a mass-market commercial film. Instead, the movie leans heavily on its storytelling, performances, and grounded themes. Director Sekhar Kammula teams up with Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna for this social thriller, which will release in Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.
Although the film carries some buzz, it doesn’t rely on star power or mass appeal. The Rs 75+GST price hike could pose a risk by turning away price-sensitive viewers who may wait for reviews or digital release options. Still, the producers likely hope the higher opening weekend revenue offsets any potential loss in footfalls.
