Kangana Ranaut Not Happy as the MP: Calls Politics a Demanding and Expensive Job

By TeluguFunda / July 12, 2025

Kangana Ranaut, known for her bold opinions and fearless attitude, has now voiced her frustration as a Member of Parliament. After she won the Mandi, Himachal Pradesh seat on a BJP ticket, she admitted the role hasn’t turned out as she expected. She says the job demands far more time and energy than what party leaders initially told her, and it has deeply affected both her acting career and personal life.

Politics Turned Out More Demanding Than Expected

Kangana believed that being an MP would require only 60 to 70 days of Parliament attendance each year. She assumed she could spend the rest of the time on her film work. But after stepping into politics, she realized the workload stays intense throughout the year. She now attends not just Parliament sessions but also deals with people’s concerns, visits different parts of her constituency, and manages a never-ending list of issues. Because of this, she managed to release only one film, Emergency, since she took office.

No Real Power, Only Responsibilities

While explaining her role, Kangana said MPs serve as the bridge between state and central governments. They push for central projects in their states and take up public issues with the Centre. However, she clarified that she doesn’t control any cabinet or have a dedicated team. She personally reviews issues with deputy commissioners and gives feedback to higher officials.

During her visit to the flood-affected areas of the Mandi region, she said the state government handles relief and restoration work. As an MP, she can only inform the prime minister and home minister and request help.

Politics Feels Like an Expensive Hobby

In a recent interview, Kangana called politics a “very expensive hobby.” She explained that her MP salary amounts to only Rs 50,000-Rs 60,000 after deductions. This amount doesn’t cover the high costs of visiting her constituency, hiring staff, or arranging travel. She said she often travels 300–400 kilometers between locations, which costs lakhs of rupees. According to her, an honest politician can’t treat politics like a full-time job. “You need another job to survive,” she said.

Kangana Says She Doesn’t Enjoy Political Life

When someone asked if she enjoys her political role, Kangana replied, “I wouldn’t say I’m enjoying it.” She compared political work to social service rather than a profession. She admitted that she never came from a political background and found it hard to adjust.

She added that people often approach her with panchayat-level issues like broken drains and roads, matters that local leaders or MLAs should handle. But since people see her as powerful and wealthy, they ask her to solve these problems herself and even expect her to spend her own money.

Balancing Acting With Politics Feels Difficult

Kangana pointed out that many MPs continue working in their original fields. Lawyers keep practicing law, and businesspeople run their companies. She plans to follow a similar path. Although she has signed a Hollywood project, she said her heavy political responsibilities make it difficult to focus on acting.
