By TeluguFunda / September 1, 2025

Kalki 2898 AD, the sci-fi mythological blockbuster starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, released in June 2024 and created history by earning over Rs 1,050 crore worldwide. Director Nag Ashwin delivered one of the most expensive and celebrated Indian films of all time, combining futuristic storytelling with epic mythology. Since then, fans have eagerly waited for the sequel’s launch.

Nag Ashwin on Kalki 2 Shoot Timeline

In a recent podcast, Nag Ashwin shared an important update about the sequel. He explained that the project demands more planning and execution than the first part. He admitted he doesn’t know the exact date yet because actors need to adjust their schedules and the team must prepare massive pre-visualized sequences and action blocks. Even with these challenges, Ashwin confirmed that the team will start shooting the sequel by December 2025.

Bigger Action and Longer Post-Production

Ashwin revealed that Kalki 2 will showcase larger action scenes and more advanced VFX than the first film. He clarified that the team will spend significant time on the shoot, but post-production will take even longer because the movie heavily relies on visual effects. He predicted that the sequel may only hit theaters two to three years after filming begins, which means fans might watch it in 2027 or later.

Prabhas to Take Center Stage in Kalki 2

Ashwin also confirmed that Prabhas will dominate the sequel. While Kalki 2898 AD highlighted the character arcs of Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan, the second installment will focus on the stories of Karna and Ashwatthama, placing Prabhas in the spotlight. This announcement already raised excitement among his fans.

A Film of Unprecedented Scale

Nag Ashwin and his team created Kalki 2898 AD with a massive Rs 600 crore budget and released it worldwide on June 27, 2024 in standard, IMAX, and 3D formats. The film ranked as the second highest-grossing Indian film of 2024 and earned the Telangana Gaddar Film Award for Best Feature Film. With Santhosh Narayanan’s music, Djordje Stojiljkovic’s cinematography, and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao’s editing, the film set a new benchmark for Indian cinema.

With Nag Ashwin’s latest confirmation, fans can expect the journey of Kalki 2 to begin in late 2025. However, they must prepare for a longer wait before the release as the team plans to deliver a sequel that looks even grander and more visually stunning than the first part.
