Kaantha Teaser: Dulquer Salmaan Sparks Father-Son Ego Clash in Gripping Retro Drama

By TeluguFunda / July 29, 2025

The first teaser of Kaantha has dropped, and it powerfully showcases a dramatic and emotional clash between a father and son during the golden age of cinema. On Dulquer Salmaan’s birthday, July 28, the makers released this intense period drama teaser, which features bold storytelling, stunning visuals, and powerful performances.

Director Selvamani Selvaraj brings together Dulquer and veteran actor Samuthirakani in a layered narrative that dives deep into ambition, ego, and betrayal in the 1950s Tamil film industry.

A Retro Tale of Rivalry and Rebellion

Set in 1950s Madras, Kaantha follows Ayya (Samuthirakani), a respected filmmaker, and his son Chandran (Dulquer), a superstar whom Ayya personally trained for the screen. Though both love cinema, they now battle a deep emotional rift. The teaser clearly shows this tension, with the father, still hailed as a legend, clashing with his increasingly dominant son who refuses to follow his father’s vision.

The teaser starts with a fictional production house, Modern Studios, announcing its first horror film, Saantha. But as their creative clash worsens, Chandran hijacks the project and renames it Kaantha. He reshapes the film to reflect his own ego and control. What began as a female-centric film now becomes a hero-led story, discarding Ayya’s original plan.

Powerful Performances and Visual Brilliance

Dulquer brings fiery intensity to Chandran, portraying an ambitious and emotionally charged character who’s unafraid to challenge authority. Samuthirakani powerfully embodies Ayya, a proud father who watches his own creation rebel against him. Their explosive confrontations, especially the shocking moment where Ayya chokes his son, highlight the emotional depth of the story.

Bhagyashri Borse plays the female lead, caught in the tug-of-war between two ego-driven men. Rana Daggubati joins the cast and also co-produces the film with Dulquer, Prashanth Potluri, and Jom Varghese under the banners Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films.

Rich Craftsmanship Behind the Scenes

Cinematographer Dani Sanchez Lopez captures the vintage aesthetic with visual finesse, while Tha. Ramalingam’s production design brings 1950s Madras to life. Jhanu Chanthar builds tension with his haunting music score. Editor Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez ensures the teaser moves with gripping momentum.

Release Date and Audience Buzz

Fans across social media quickly reacted with excitement. Many praised Dulquer for picking a bold, layered role and applauded the film’s nostalgic yet intense tone. Some even compared his performance to his role as Gemini Ganesan in Mahanati and called Kaantha a potential “sureshot hit.” The film hits theatres on September 12 and already stands out as one of 2025’s most awaited releases.

In just over two minutes, the teaser throws viewers into a gripping world of broken bonds, bruised egos, and a battle for artistic power. Kaantha doesn’t just show cinema, it mirrors the emotional war that can unfold behind it.
