Jio Hotstar has jumped back into the Tollywood digital streaming battle with bold new moves that are grabbing attention across the industry. After slowing down last year due to its merger with Jio, the platform has returned stronger and now invests huge budgets to acquire major Telugu films. With this aggressive push, Jio Hotstar challenges global players like Amazon Prime and Netflix in the fiercely competitive OTT market.

Jio Hotstar Grabs Akhanda 2 and Mirai

One of the biggest updates is that Jio Hotstar grabbed the digital rights of Balakrishna’s highly awaited sequel, Akhanda 2. The original Akhanda became a massive blockbuster and one of the highest-grossing films in Balakrishna’s career. Director Boyapati Srinu, known for previous hits like Legend and Simha, reunites with him to deliver another big entertainer. Reports confirm that Jio Hotstar beat Netflix and Amazon Prime with a more lucrative deal, securing the film for its platform.

At the same time, reports suggest that Jio Hotstar has bagged Teja Sajja’s pan-Indian superhero film Mirai across all languages. According to leading entertainment outlets, the filmmakers are reportedly involved in this partnership, though no official confirmation has been issued yet. The same reports also claim that Star Maa has acquired the satellite rights, which, if true, could give the film significant reach across both TV and OTT platforms.

The Vishwambara Tug-of-War

The situation remains unclear for Chiranjeevi’s fantasy epic Vishwambara. In June, reports claimed that Amazon Prime bought its digital rights. However, insiders reveal that Jio Hotstar continues to hold talks with UV Creations to bring the film to its platform. Since neither side has made a final announcement, the tug-of-war highlights how crucial this film is for streaming platforms aiming to capture Telugu audiences.

Jio Hotstar Builds a Strong 2026 Lineup

Apart from these big films, Jio Hotstar is negotiating with multiple production houses to acquire digital rights for projects featuring both young talent and established stars. The platform is even striking deals for films still in the scripting stage. These moves ensure that Jio Hotstar will stream a powerful lineup of Telugu premieres in 2026, strengthening its position in the OTT race.
