After scripting a historic 100 percent strike rate in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, the Jana Sena Party entered the Telangana municipal polls with renewed energy and confidence. The move was seen as a progressive step toward strengthening its footprint in Telangana politics, and expectations were naturally high among party ranks.
However, the party led by Pawan Kalyan managed to secure just two seats out of the 300-plus wards and divisions it contested. Aaruri Vijaya Lakshmi won a ward in Nereducharla municipality, while Aggu Sagar emerged victorious in a division of the Mancherial Municipal Corporation.
While the wins may mark an initial foothold for the party in Telangana, the overall performance has left supporters and followers disappointed. Many within the cadre believe the results could have been significantly better under different circumstances.
A key argument emerging from party circles is that Jana Sena’s prospects might have improved had Pawan Kalyan actively campaigned for its candidates. The party chief was initially scheduled to tour and canvass in Telangana, but he reportedly had to cancel his campaign plans at the last minute due to health issues.
Supporters argue that his presence could have energized the cadre and drawn greater public attention, especially at a time when the party is attempting to rebuild and expand beyond Andhra Pradesh. Given the importance of these municipal elections in shaping the party’s future in Telangana, many feel it was a missed opportunity to capitalize on the momentum gained earlier.
Whether this modest beginning will translate into long-term growth for Jana Sena in Telangana remains to be seen, but the debate within the party has certainly begun.
