Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, is officially set for a Pongal 2026 release. The film, directed by H Vinoth, will hit theaters worldwide on January 9, 2026, as confirmed by its production house, KVN Productions. Initially scheduled for October 2025, the film’s release was pushed to coincide with the festive Pongal weekend, a prime time for box office success in South India.
Vijay’s Last Film Before Politics
Jana Nayagan marks Vijay’s farewell to cinema as he fully transitions into politics. The actor, who recently launched his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is expected to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections. During a rally in February, he confirmed that his 69th film would be his last, as he plans to dedicate himself entirely to public service. Fans are viewing this movie as his cinematic swan song, making the release even more significant.
About the Film: Action, Emotion, and Star Power
Though the filmmakers have not officially confirmed it, Jana Nayagan is rumored to be a remake of the 2023 Telugu hit, Bhagavanth Kesari, which starred Nandamuri Balakrishna. In the Tamil version, Vijay is expected to play a masses-driven leader. The film also stars Bobby Deol and Pooja Hegde in lead roles, with a strong supporting cast featuring Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, Monisha Blessy, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar.
