IT Raids Shake Actor Arya’s Chennai Home and Restaurant Chain Over Tax Probe

Tamil actor Arya faced an unexpected twist on the morning of June 18, when Income Tax (IT) officials launched surprise raids at multiple locations connected to him in Chennai. Beginning at 8 AM, officers raided Arya’s residence on Poonamallee High Road and also targeted outlets of a popular restaurant chain that he previously owned. Officials carried out simultaneous searches in major areas like Anna Nagar and Velachery, causing a stir across Tamil Nadu.

Sources confirmed that the IT department started this operation as part of an ongoing investigation into the ownership and financial dealings of a restaurant chain Arya had once promoted. The restaurant, known for its Arabian cuisine, rose in popularity under Arya’s brand. Arya eventually sold the business to Kunhi Moosa, a businessman from Thalassery, Kerala.

Restaurant Chain Ownership Under Scrutiny

IT officers currently focus their investigation on the restaurant’s past financial records and transactions, especially the connection between Arya and the business after its sale. Since Arya transferred ownership to Moosa, the IT department extended their scrutiny to Arya’s properties after already targeting the businessman’s assets in Kerala.

Although Arya no longer manages or owns the restaurant, officials suspect possible undisclosed transactions or tax-related discrepancies during Arya’s tenure. Due to this, they included his properties in the broader tax investigation.

At the Anna Nagar branch, more than five officials arrived in two vehicles, along with armed police for security. Officers searched the premises thoroughly and collected documents and transaction files. They carried out similar actions at other branches as well.

Arya’s Film Career Continues Amid Investigation

Despite the raids, Arya continues working on his upcoming film projects. He is currently filming ‘Vettuvam’ with director Pa. Ranjith. He also signed two more films, titled ‘Mr. X’ and ‘Anandhan Kaadu’. Recently, Arya produced the movie ‘DD Next Level’, starring Santhanam, but the film performed poorly at the box office.
