The trailer for ‘Indian 2’ is considered to be the least impactful trailer in recent times among big-ticket movies. Everything is on cliched lines in it.
Kamal Haasan’s look is unflattering, to say the least. When ‘Indian’ (‘Bharateeyudu’) was released in 1996, Kamal’s look was the biggest highlight, on par with AR Rahman’s songs. The makers revealed that the old man was Kamal days after putting out paper ads and wallposters. The suspense was built up with so much cleverness.
Of course, you can’t expect such a level of excitement to be repeated with ‘Indian 2’. But Kamal’s look in the trailer is so bad that it actually ends up killing all the anticipation around the sequel.
Siddharth, who plays a major role in the film, has no market in Telugu, making it hard for the film’s Telugu version.
Director Shankar, everything said, can’t be written off. While the themes of vigilantism and anti-corruption are old, the director can surprise us with a racy narration and good visuals.
‘Indian 2’, co-starring Bobby Simha, SJ Suryah, Rakul Preet Singh and others, has music by Anirudh Ravichander.
