Tell us about your background? Hi Nanna, how did the journey begin?

Ours is Vizag. My father does real estate. Mom is a housewife. Brother and sister are there. I don’t have any film background. They told me to do medicine at home. However, he got into the industry because of his love for movies. I worked as an assistant director for Kannada and Telugu movie Jaguar, Arjun Reddy remake of Aditya Varma. I wrote the story four years ago. When I told it to the producers of Vaira Entertainments, they liked it. I was introduced to Gary. When Nani told Gari, he liked it very much. He said he would do it immediately. The preproduction work was done for six months. Then we started shooting.

Did you make any changes in the story after Nani accepted the story?

After telling the story to Nani, he did not change anything. I have made some changes. I took a lot of care in every scene.

If Nani garu’s story is okay, there must be a lot of strength in the story. What do you think is the strength of your story?

My main strength is emotion. The bond between the father and daughter, as well as the bonding in Mrinal’s character, is the core strength of what this story revolves around. I think Nani garu accepted this story because of that emotion.

Looking at the trailer, I saw shades of the movie Santosham in Hi Nanna.. Is there any inspiration?

Or not. Before happiness there is kuch kuch hota hai. All these movies come to mind as a single father falls in love again. But Hi Dad, it is completely different. This is a fictional story. But it cannot be said that it is completely fiction. It includes things that have been examined in life and society.

The reason for writing a love story for your first film?

In fact, the direction will come sooner. I also wrote action stories. But if it is a love story for a debut film director, you will believe it. Hi Nanna is a story with high pitch of emotions than normal love story. But it cannot be said that love stories work out for everyone. Srikanth Odela has made ‘Dussehra’ a complete commercial film.

The story is hidden in the teaser.. but the reason for opening the trailer almost?

The trailer should tell the audience what they are going to see and what kind of emotions they will feel. There is nothing to hide here. What the audience is going to see should be prepared with the trailer itself.

Hi Nanna, it will be released earlier than expected.. How prepared are you?

Even if you give me two more months, I will not be ready. (Laughs) There is no end to perfection and improvement. At first we thought 21. Now when it comes to 7, we are still working with double energy. But we have a plan before the release date. All that plan will be preprone according to the release date.

Mrinal said that everyone will fall in love with my father or else he will change his name..what do you say?

Mrinal is very sweet. He said that with confidence in the film.

Nowadays, most of the films are coming in violence, guns and action.

This is the reason for making a clean entertainer like ‘Hi Nanna’. This is the strongest emotion we have to say. It has no double meaning dialogues, no violence. It is a very clean emotional family movie. A nuclear family story. Films like Hi Nanna should come at this time of emotional dullness.

What is your understanding of single parent father?

Normally, however, half the responsibility is taken by the mother. If you are a single parent, the father has full responsibility for the children. Design their lives around children. Nani’s role in this is also the same. He should be with his daughter wherever he is. So his life is designed around his daughter.

Who is music director Hesham Abdul Wahab’s choice?

Nani suggested Hesham. He was very excited when he told the story. Along with the songs, the film has a very wonderful background score. Music was made according to the character and emotion of each character. He used to tell a good story with music. Later with this movie he will grow another step. Also Shawn John Varghese also came from Lensing telling his story. By the end of the movie, the character Viraj looks very different without you knowing.

Who thought of singing Odiyamma song with Vikram’s boy?

Dhruv is my friend. I Know his music. Good singer, good guitar player. I thought it would be better to sing this song with Dhruv. Dhruv also liked this idea and sang it himself.

Who is Mrinal Thakur’s choice? Was she taken after the fame that came with Sitaram?

Mrinal Thakur is my choice. I thought of her when I wrote the character. I saw the movie Thupan starring Mrinal. Loved her performance in it. There are many layers in the heroine’s role in Hi Nanna. It has many crying scenes. When I was thinking who would look beautiful even if she cried like that, I saw Mrinal Thakur.

Did Nani give you any suggestions?

Nani’s inputs are many. He gave very valuable suggestions. We have taken all precautions to see what is good for a film that speaks openly.

Pan India means more action movies. Why did you feel like doing an emotional love story on a pan-India scale?

Story is universal. It would be good if everyone heard the story. We did it with the intention that people of other languages should also listen to our story. This is a movie that will be liked by the audience of all languages.

About Baby Kiara?

He is super talented. Acting with young children is a bit difficult. But she gave me a surprise. When told about the scene and given the dialogue paper, she understood the emotion and acted without any hesitation. She still eloquently recites all her dialogues that she wakes up in her sleep. I didn’t try too hard to get him to act.

How is Shruti Haasan’s screen space? Will there be any surprise roles?

In this, Shruti Haasan’s role is important. That’s all we need to say about the character so far. There are one or two surprise characters.

Hi dad, where did the shooting take place? How many days did it happen?

We shot in Hyderabad, Goa, Mumbai and Coonoor. We shot for 97 days.

How is the support of producers? About Journey with Vaira Entertainments?

The producers have been very supportive. It is very nice to find producers like Mohan and Vijayender. A very memorable journey with Vaira Entertainments. Vijayender Reddy is like a brother to me. Vaira Entertainments is my home.

what is your challenge? What about memorable moments?

A challenge is to make a story like ‘Hi Nanna’. A very sensitive story. It should be supported with words, scenes and emotions. Theatrical experience should be given. Writing a story like this is a challenge. There are many memorable moments. The way Nani garu, Mrinal and Baby Kiara prepared before each scene was very memorable.

Who inspired you to become a director?

Rajamouli. I got a lot of inspiration watching his movies. He is a role model for every aspiring director.

What kind of stories do you want to do in the future? What is your strength?

There are some stories. After the release of this movie, I will take some time to think about it. My strength is emotion. Emotion is the key even in commercial movies.
