The Gaddar Telangana Film Awards return in a big way, with a grand ceremony set for June 14 at HICC, Hyderabad. The Congress-led Telangana government has revived these awards to recognize excellence in cinema. This year’s edition will honour films released in 2024, and also one best film per year from 2014 to 2023. With this, the government places renewed focus on the growth of the Telugu film industry.
Telangana Government Boosts Film Awards with Record-Breaking Prize Money
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced that the Gaddar Awards will offer cash prizes that match or exceed the National Film Awards. He raised the Best Film prize to ₹10 lakhs for producers and ₹7 lakhs for directors. In contrast, the last Andhra Pradesh Film Awards in 2013 only gave ₹75,000 to the producer and ₹30,000 to the director. This bold move proves the Telangana government’s strong commitment to supporting cinema.
Film Industry to Receive Long-Overdue Recognition
The awards team has decided to honour outstanding films from 2014 to 2023, covering the decade that lacked recognition. Filmmakers responded enthusiastically, submitting 76 applications across various categories and 1,172 nominations for individual honours in acting, direction, and technical fields. Actress Jayasudha, who leads the jury, has partnered with Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy to ensure the event runs smoothly.
Gaddar’s Spirit Shines Through Telangana’s Cinema
By naming the awards after Gaddar, the legendary revolutionary poet, the government celebrates Telangana’s cultural soul. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka praised Gaddar’s role in bringing folk traditions to the world stage. He highlighted how Gaddar’s music gave strength to the Telangana movement. The government also pledged support to Urdu films, promoting cultural diversity within the state.
Prestigious Lifetime Awards to Honour Cinema Legends
The event will also present special lifetime achievement awards, including:
NTR National Film Award
Paidi Jairaj Film Award
BN Reddy Film Award
Nagi Reddy and Chakrapani Film Award
Kantha Rao Film Award
Raghupathi Venkaiah Film Award
These awards will recognize artists and filmmakers who made long-standing contributions to Indian cinema.
Congress Government Charts a Bold Vision for Telangana Cinema
Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka reminded people that the previous Congress government played a major role in shifting the film industry from Chennai to Hyderabad. It allocated land for studios and housing for film workers. Now, by reviving the Gaddar Telangana Film Awards, the government signals a new era of support and pride for regional cinema.
The June 14 event at HITEX promises to become a landmark moment for Telangana’s film industry, as the state celebrates its artists, creators, and cultural icons on a grand scale.
