‘Double Ismart’ is in a different ballpark altogether. Among movies that did a theatrical pre-release business of more than Rs 50 crore and ended up recovering less than 30%, the Puri Jagannadh directorial is head and shoulders above its illustrious companion, Nandamuri Balakrishna’s ‘NTR: Kathanayakudu’ (28%).
‘Double Ismart’ recovered just 22% on a rumoured theatrical business of Rs 54 crore (worldwide). ‘HanuMan’ producer Niranjan Reddy is the one who had bought the worldwide theatrical rights. This one is Puri Jagannadh’s most humiliating disaster. Same goes for Ram Pothineni. Same goes for Charmme Kaur, the producer.
Only four films recovered between 30-40% after doing a theatrical business of above Rs 50 crore. Chiranjeevi’s ‘Acharya’ recovered 35% as per an estimate. ‘Bholaa Shankar’ recovered 33%. Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Liger’ recovered just 31%.
