‘Salaar’ was based on Prashanth Neel’s first Kannada movie, ‘Ugramm’. Its story was developed and enhancements were made. This is something Neel himself said a couple of days before the release of the movie in December, 2023.
There is another Prabhas movie which was unofficially based on a previous film made by the same director. We are talking about ‘Saaho’. Director Sujeeth Sign made this film as a more intense version of his maiden venture, ‘Run Raja Run’. The similarities are obvious but neither Sujeeth nor UV Creations ever made a public declaration unlike Neel.
“Just realized ‘Run Raja Run’ and ‘Saaho’ have similar plots: both heroes seek revenge for their fathers, keep their identities secret, and have friends working with the villain (Adivi Sesh in ‘RRR’, Arun Vijay in ‘Saaho’) revealed in the climax. Literally the same,” writes Swathi Prasad, a social media user.
