Director Maruthi, who is currently gearing up for the release of his much-awaited film Raja Saab starring Prabhas, found himself at the center of an unexpected controversy. The film is set to hit theatres on January 9, ahead of the Sankranti season, and promotional activities are in full swing.
During a promotional event held in Hyderabad, Maruthi made a remark that unintentionally stirred emotions among NTR fans. While addressing the crowd, he stated that he would not make comments like “raising the collar” because such statements wouldn’t match the stature or cutout of a star like Prabhas.
Although the comment seemed harmless on the surface, it carried an unintended implication. Fans quickly drew parallels to a previous statement made by NTR, who once said that War 2 would make his fans “raise their collars.” After the film’s disappointing performance, that comment became widely discussed. Maruthi’s coincidentally similar remark instantly triggered backlash from Tarak’s fans.
Seeing the situation escalate online, Maruthi issued a heartfelt clarification. He emphasized that he did not intend to hurt or disrespect NTR or his fans in any way.
In his statement, he wrote:
“Felt like clarifying this personally. First, I sincerely apologise to every fan. It was never my intention to hurt or disrespect anyone. Sometimes in the flow of words, things come out differently from what we truly mean, and I regret that it was received in the wrong way or as a comparison.
I have immense respect for NTR garu and all his fans. I truly value the love you carry for cinema and for your hero. I hope you understand the situation and the intention behind it.”**
Maruthi’s open apology and clarification were well-received by many, helping calm the situation and reaffirming the respect he holds for NTR and his fans.
