The Hindi film trade is currently abuzz with discussions around the phenomenal box office run of Dhurandhar. Marking his return to direction after six years, URI fame Aditya Dhar has delivered a massive winner with Ranveer Singh in the lead. Released in theatres on December 5, the film may have started on a modest note, but it has since exploded into a full-blown box office juggernaut.
Dhurandhar opened with ₹28 crore nett in the North and wrapped up its first week with an impressive ₹210 crore nett. What followed next was truly historic. In its second week, the film raked in approximately ₹260 crore nett higher than its opening week and the highest-ever second-week collection in North India. In doing so, it comfortably overtook the previous record held by Pushpa 2, which had earned around ₹200 crore nett during its second week.
As the film enters its third week, Dhurandhar has already crossed the ₹500 crore nett milestone and continues to show remarkable momentum. Even with the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 19, the impact on its collections is expected to be minimal. With the Christmas and New Year holidays approaching and no major Hindi releases in sight, the film is projected to sail past ₹600 crore nett, with a strong chance of reaching ₹700 crore.
The film is also well-positioned to emerge as test-grossing Hindi film of the year, potentially surpassing Kantara: Chapter 1. Whether it can achieve the coveted ₹1,000 crore gross mark remains to be seen. Remarkably, Dhurandhar has achieved these numbers with just its Hindi version. Given the growing curiosity among Telugu audiences, demand for a Telugu dubbed version is reportedly strong.
Produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar under Jio Studios and B62 Studios, Dhurandhar features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi, along with Manav Gohil, Danish Pandor, Saumya Tandon, and Gaurav Gera in pivotal roles.
