Court Issues Final Warning to Kochadaiiyaan Producer

Kochadaiiyaan, the 2014 Tamil historical drama starring Superstar Rajinikanth, has once again made headlines this time for legal reasons. Directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth, the film was produced by J. Murali Manohar under the Media One Global Entertainment banner and was India’s first major feature made using motion-capture technology.

Due to the film’s heavy reliance on advanced technology, Kochadaiiyaan required extensive post-production work, which significantly increased costs. To meet post-production and release expenses, the production house reportedly took financial assistance from an advertising and media company in 2014.

As part of the repayment arrangement, the producer issued cheques to the lender. However, one of the cheques was dishonoured, leading the lender to file a cheque bounce case in court. After years of legal proceedings, a trial court convicted the producer, ordering him to pay compensation and imposing a brief jail sentence.

Challenging the verdict, the producer approached the Madras High Court. In the latest development, the High Court has directed him to pay approximately Rs. 2.52 crore within the timeframe specified by the court. The court made it clear that failure to comply would result in the enforcement of the jail sentence passed earlier.

It is important to note that the case strictly concerns financial liabilities related to the film’s production and has no connection to Kochadaiiyaan’s content or box-office performance.
