Sankranthi is one of the most marketable seasons for cinema, especially in Telugu states. This year, we have Ram Charan’s Game Changer, Venkatesh’s Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, and Balakrishna’s Daaku Maharaj. All three films are well spaced for the season, each having two days of breathable space for box-office.
As the three trailers of the films are out now, let’s see which each film has to offer for the vast and varied audiences of Telugu states and the rest of world as well.
- Game Changer
After the disastrous debacle of Shankar’s Bharateeyudu 2, Game Changer is coming with a lot of baggage- the past-disaster of Shankar and the global blockbuster of Ram Charan and NTR’s RRR. Game Changer is projecting itself as a highly budgeted film with the numbers circulating around Rs. 400 Crores as its budget and almost Rs. 75 Crores spending solely on the songs.
Ram Charan plays the dual role of IPS cop, the sun, and a supposedly a farmer, the father, as well. The trailer offers you the glimpses of Ram Charan as a college student, perhaps transitioning into IPS officer later in future. He appears to be the ruthless honest cop, working against the ill practices of the society. SJ Suriyah plays the primary antagonist in the film as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
Game Changer’s story is written by Karthik Subbaraj and envisioned in the style of Shankar. The style of Shankar is to mix the mass masala elements in a serious drama discussing the persisting social issues of corruption and social responsibility. This strong hold of Shankar was seriously questioned after the release of Bharateeyudu 2. Game Changer is an important movie for both Charan and Shankar now.
Game Changer is going to release on 10th Jan, 2024.
- Daaku Maharaj
Nandamuri Balakrishna is once again in the game of mass masala commercial entertainer. Bala
This action-packed film, directed by Bobby Kolli, showcases Balakrishna in a dual role—first as the titular dacoit “Daaku Maharaaj” and later as “Nanaji,” a father figure for a child. The story hints at a regular revenge actioner, the most overused template in Balakrishna’s cinemas.
The trailer features high-octane physics-defying action sequences, with Balakrishna displaying his signature mass appeal and charisma. The background score from composer Thaman S S, is something to lookout for the reputation of being the mass-composer for Balayya’s films.
Alongside Balakrishna and Bobby Deol plays the primary role as a villain. Bobby Deol is being introduced to Telugu audiences once again after Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal. The film features notable actors such as Urvashi Rautela, Shraddha Srinath, and Pragya Jaiswal in other roles.
Daaku Maharaj is going to hit the theatres on 12th January, 2025.
- Sankranthi Vasthunnam
Anil Ravipudi’s Rom-com with Venkatesh after their pairup for F2 and F3, is the movie with least buzz compared to high-octane action thrillers like Game Changer and Daku Maharaj. However, the silent audience, just like silent voters in democracy, is not a myth. The silent and sudden success of Hanuman against Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram last year once again proves the value of word of mouth, especially for the ‘family’ movies.
Venkatesh plays the role of an ex-cop wrapped around a love triangle between his loyal wife, played by Aishwarya Rajesh and Meenakshi Chaudhary as Venkatesh’s ex-girlfriend. As Venkatesh tries to solve a crime, Anil tries to invent comedy out of here, in his own fashioned generalising humor of cracking the jokes between wife and husbands. We have to see if Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, would be successful in cracking the jokes or get cracked at the box office.
Sankranthi ki Vasthunnam is going to hit the theatres on 14th January, 2025.
