Actor Dhanush has finally addressed the controversy surrounding this year’s National Film Awards, responding to criticism over Raayan receiving top honors. Following the announcement of the winners, several film enthusiasts and critics argued that Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja and Karthi’s Meiyazhagan were more deserving of the recognition.

Speaking about the debate, Dhanush said he respects the opinions of those who believe Raayan did not deserve the award. However, he questioned why similar outrage was absent when several of his critically acclaimed films failed to win National Awards in previous years.

“Many people feel Raayan didn’t deserve the award. I respect that opinion. But when Pudhupettai, Maryan, Raanjhanaa, Vada Chennai, and even Karnan missed National Awards despite deserving them, very few questioned it. Why is everyone raising the issue only now?” Dhanush said.

The actor also surprised many by acknowledging the quality of the films that were at the center of the debate. “I know Meiyazhagan and Maharaja are better films than mine,” he added, earning praise for his candid and humble response.

Dhanush’s remarks have sparked fresh discussions on social media, with fans and cinephiles debating the National Awards selection process. While opinions remain divided over this year’s winners, the actor’s balanced response has brought a new perspective to the ongoing controversy.

In a major political development, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has reportedly resigned from his position following nearly two weeks of continuous student protests in Delhi.

According to the latest reports, Pradhan submitted his resignation just minutes ago. His decision comes after sustained demonstrations by students demanding accountability over the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination process.

What Did Dharmendra Pradhan Say?

In a public letter released after his reported resignation, Pradhan expressed deep anguish over the events of the past 10 days. He stated that India’s youth are the nation’s future and emphasized the importance of listening to their concerns.

Calling his decision a “dignified resignation,” he reportedly said the move was in response to the growing public sentiment and unrest that had intensified in recent days.

Student Protests Gain Momentum

The protests in Delhi continued to gain strength with each passing day as students demanded greater transparency and accountability over the alleged NEET examination irregularities.

Demonstrators also called for justice for students who allegedly took their own lives following the controversy, making the issue a significant national concern.

A Major Victory for the Protest Movement

Supporters of the student movement have described the reported resignation as a major victory, saying it reflects the impact of sustained public demonstrations and demands for accountability.

The protests had consistently called for the Education Minister’s resignation while urging authorities to address the concerns surrounding the examination process and implement meaningful reforms.

The sudden rise of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), a movement that gained traction largely through social media, has triggered fresh political debate over the power of digital platforms. While the party began as an online phenomenon, its rapid popularity has highlighted how quickly youth-driven campaigns can gain momentum in the social media era.

According to political discussions following the recent Union Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of expanding the government’s digital outreach, particularly on Instagram. Reports suggest that Modi asked Union ministers about their presence on the platform and encouraged them to become more active to connect directly with young Indians.

Modi Wants Ministers to Reach the Youth

Sources indicate that the Prime Minister advised ministers not to rely only on X (formerly Twitter) for communication. Instead, he reportedly stressed that Instagram has become one of the most influential platforms among the younger generation and should be used regularly to engage with citizens.

The focus, according to reports, is not just on posting updates but also on using reels, interactive content, and short videos to communicate government initiatives in a more engaging manner.

Why Instagram Matters

With millions of young users spending significant time on Instagram, the platform has become a key space for political messaging and public engagement. The Prime Minister is said to have encouraged ministers to leverage digital platforms effectively so that government schemes and policies reach the youth in a format they actively consume.

The message was reportedly clear: understanding the pulse of young India requires being present where young people spend their time.

Modi Leads by Example

The discussion gained further attention after a video shared by PM Modi on social media received massive engagement within hours of its release. The post reportedly garnered millions of views and attracted widespread reactions from supporters, with BJP leaders describing it as an example of how direct digital communication can build public confidence.

Modi also thanked people for their positive feedback and later shared another video, reinforcing his emphasis on active engagement through social media.

Opposition Calls It the ‘CJP Effect’

The Opposition has seized on the development, claiming that the government’s renewed focus on Instagram reflects the impact of CJP’s rapid social media success. While BJP leaders maintain that strengthening digital outreach has always been part of the party’s communication strategy, critics argue that the emergence of youth-led online movements has prompted a greater emphasis on connecting with younger audiences.

Whether this marks a strategic shift or simply an expansion of the government’s existing digital communication efforts, one thing is clear: social media has become a central battleground in Indian politics, and platforms like Instagram are now playing an increasingly significant role in shaping public opinion.

The Central Government has introduced a major amendment bill in the Rajya Sabha that could bring Vande Mataram under the protection of criminal law. Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai presented the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026 during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

If passed, the legislation will make intentional insults to or obstruction of the singing of Vande Mataram a punishable offence, similar to the legal protections already available for the National Anthem and the National Flag.

What Does the Vande Mataram Bill Propose?

The proposed amendment seeks to expand the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, by including India’s national song within its scope. Under the bill, anyone who deliberately prevents, disrupts, or insults the singing of Vande Mataram could face legal action.

The exact definition of what qualifies as an “insult” or “obstruction” will be clarified in the legislation and is expected to become a key point of discussion during parliamentary debates.

Why Is the Government Bringing This Amendment?

The move comes as India commemorates 150 years of Vande Mataram, one of the most iconic songs of the freedom movement. Written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and featured in his novel Anandamath, the song has long been regarded as a symbol of India’s struggle for independence.

The Centre has already encouraged the singing of Vande Mataram at official events through earlier guidelines. The new bill aims to provide the national song with statutory legal protection for the first time.

What Does the Existing Law Say?

The Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 currently provides legal protection to India’s National Flag, the Constitution, and the National Anthem. It also prescribes penalties for intentionally disrupting or preventing the singing of the National Anthem.

The proposed amendment extends similar legal safeguards to Vande Mataram, making it an officially protected national symbol under the law.

Why Is the Bill Likely to Spark Debate?

The legal status of Vande Mataram has been debated for years, particularly over whether singing the national song can be made compulsory. The proposed law is expected to reignite discussions on individual rights, freedom of expression, and the distinction between deliberate disruption and choosing not to participate.

How the government defines “insult” and “obstruction” will be closely examined by lawmakers and legal experts before the bill is passed.

What Happens Next?

The amendment bill has now been introduced in the Rajya Sabha and must be approved by both Houses of Parliament before receiving the President’s assent.

If enacted, the law will significantly strengthen the legal protection given to Vande Mataram, making any intentional disrespect or obstruction a criminal offence under India’s National Honour framework. The upcoming parliamentary debate is expected to clarify the proposed punishments, definitions, and safeguards before the bill becomes law.

Fans eagerly waiting for the Ramayana trailer received an unexpected surprise from the makers. The much-anticipated trailer, which was expected to premiere during the film’s grand presentation at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), has officially been postponed. The team confirmed the update through social media, stating that a new trailer launch date will be announced soon.

While the delay disappointed fans, the makers also shared a major development that has created fresh excitement around the film.

Sony Pictures Joins Ramayana for Worldwide Release

In a significant boost for the project, Sony Pictures Entertainment has officially partnered with the makers to distribute Ramayana across global markets. The collaboration is expected to give the film one of the widest international releases ever for an Indian mythological epic.

This announcement has raised expectations for the film’s worldwide box office potential and its reach among international audiences.

Why Was the Trailer Delayed?

Although the makers have not revealed the official reason behind the postponement, industry buzz suggests that the delay could be linked to the newly finalized distribution partnership with Sony Pictures.

Reports also indicate that the team may be planning something much bigger for the trailer launch. According to circulating rumors, a 3D version of the Ramayana trailer could be attached to screenings of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, allowing it to reach a massive global audience before its online release. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding this strategy.

Star Cast and Release Date

Directed on a grand scale, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash in lead roles. The film is produced by Prime Focus Studios in association with Monster Mind Creations, while Oscar-winning VFX studio DNEG is handling the visual effects.

Despite the trailer delay, the film remains on track for its Diwali 2026 theatrical release, making it one of the biggest Indian releases of the year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a major step to tackle paper leak cases, revealing that the Centre will establish fast-track courts to ensure speedy trials and strict punishment for those responsible. Stressing that safeguarding the future of students is the government’s highest priority, the Prime Minister said those attempting to destroy the aspirations of young people would face tough legal consequences.

Sharing the announcement on X, PM Modi said that nothing is more important than the welfare and future of the country’s youth. He stated that the government has directed all concerned authorities to take every necessary measure to ensure that paper leak cases are investigated swiftly and offenders are punished without delay. He also reiterated that protecting students’ interests remains a key focus of the Centre.

In a strong warning, the Prime Minister declared that those who play with the future of India’s youth will not be spared, signaling a zero-tolerance approach against examination-related crimes.

The announcement comes at a time when protests over the alleged NEET paper leak continue at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, where students have been demanding accountability and stronger measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

This is not the first time PM Modi has spoken strongly on the issue. During the recent NDA Parliamentary Party meeting, he reportedly described paper leaks as a “ghor paap” (grave sin) and emphasized that strict action must be taken against those involved. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju later conveyed the Prime Minister’s remarks, stating that the NEET paper leak should not become a subject of partisan politics.

According to Rijiju, PM Modi stressed that the NEET controversy is a national issue, not one confined to any single state or the Central government, and called for a united effort to protect the integrity of the country’s examination system and the future of millions of students.
