Bunny Vas Reveals Actual Producer Earnings From a ₹100 Ticket

The ongoing debate over movie ticket pricing in the Telugu states has once again taken center stage. Despite regular revisions in ticket rates by both state governments to meet rising production and operational costs, producers continue to request special hikes for big releases. As a result, ticket prices especially during the first week have climbed higher than ever, drawing criticism from the audience.

Benefit shows, premium pricing, and inflated first-day rates have now become the norm. Many moviegoers feel that these special prices burden them more than they support the industry. However, producers argue that they receive only a fraction of the ticket price, and the general public often misunderstands how the revenue is actually shared.

Addressing this issue in a recent media interaction, producer Bunny Vas shed light on the real numbers behind ticket revenue distribution. According to him, a producer receives less than 28% of the total ticket price. In simple terms, from a ₹100 ticket, only ₹28 reaches the producer, while the remaining amount is split among theatres, government taxes, and distribution expenses.

He further explained that whatever profit the producer earns after recovering the investment is again subjected to 35–40% income tax, significantly reducing the final take-home amount.

Bunny Vas also pointed out that many people assume producers collect the entire amount when tickets are sold at high rates like ₹600 or ₹800 for special shows. He urged the media to help audiences understand the actual revenue-sharing model rather than assuming producers are profiting excessively from ticket hikes.

His remarks come at a time when social media users are criticizing the increased ticket prices for Akhanda 2, calling the hikes unreasonable. By presenting the producer’s perspective, Bunny Vas appealed for a more balanced and informed view of the economics behind film ticket pricing.
