After the NDA secured a massive mandate in the Bihar Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful message, expressing confidence that the BJP is now set to repeat this success in West Bengal in 2026.
Addressing party workers at the BJP headquarters in Delhi on Friday evening, PM Modi said that with the NDA crossing the 200-seat mark in Bihar’s 243-member Assembly, the party’s morale is at an all-time high. The mandate, he said, has paved the way for the next big challenge West Bengal.
“Ganga flows through Bihar and reaches Bengal. Bihar has also shown the direction for BJP’s victory in Bengal. I congratulate the brothers and sisters of Bengal. Together, we will uproot jungle raj from West Bengal as well,” PM Modi said amid loud cheers from thousands of party supporters.
With Assembly elections for 293 seats in West Bengal scheduled for 2026, the political battle is expected to revolve around key issues such as women’s safety, law and order, infiltration from Bangladesh, and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll.
SIR: A Key Issue Ahead of Bengal 2026
The SIR exercise has emerged as a major factor in the run-up to the high-stakes Bengal election. The revision aims to eliminate illegal or duplicate voters from the rolls an issue that has sparked intense debate between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP.
SIR 1.0 was recently carried out in Bihar, leading to the removal of nearly 65 lakh fake voters from the state’s electoral list. The Mahagathbandhan strongly opposed the move, alleging that the campaign targeted their voter base. The BJP, however, claimed it was essential to ensure free and fair elections.
PM Modi’s Sharp Attack on the Congress
In his speech, PM Modi launched a strong criticism of the Congress, calling it a “parasite party” that weakens its allies during elections. He cautioned parties that align with the Congress, suggesting they reconsider their political strategies.
“Congress is drowning itself in negative politics and dragging its allies along. I have already warned that the Congress is a liability. It wants to return to power by swallowing the vote bank of its partners,” he said.
PM Modi also said the Congress has transformed into what he termed the “Muslim League–Maoist Congress,” alleging that the party’s ideology is now driven by these influences. He added that a section within the Congress is uncomfortable with the party’s approach, and this internal tension may lead to another major split in the future.
Historic Victory for NDA in Bihar
The election results marked the NDA’s strongest performance ever in Bihar. With over 200 seats, the alliance—comprising the BJP, JDU, LJP (Ramvilas), and RLSP secured a commanding two-thirds majority. For the first time, the BJP is poised to emerge as the single-largest party in the state.
In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan led by the RJD, Congress, and other partners was reduced to fewer than 30 seats, marking one of its poorest showings.
