Bigg Boss Telugu Season 9: A Fading Giant?

By TeluguFunda / September 5, 2025

Bigg Boss Telugu, once hailed as the pride of Star Maa and a cultural juggernaut in Telugu television, is showing all the signs of collapse. With Season 9 set to begin on September 7th, the atmosphere that once buzzed with anticipation is eerily flat. For a show that built its reputation on dominating screens, sparking controversies, and capturing mass attention, the lack of excitement is not just surprising — it is alarming.

The first red flag is the trailer response. Released on Star Maa’s official channel, the launch promo has struggled to cross 500K views even after a week. For a show of this stature, that number is nothing short of embarrassing. Earlier seasons, particularly Season 7, stormed past one million views in just two to three days, while even the underwhelming Season 8 managed better traction. This time, the promo didn’t even scrape into YouTube’s trending list. For a franchise once considered Star Maa’s TRP machine, this kind of muted reception exposes the fading pull of the brand.

If the weak trailer wasn’t enough, the near-total absence of marketing makes the situation worse. Bigg Boss used to be everywhere — plastered across hoardings, splashed on news channels, and dominating digital conversations. Today, there is radio silence. The #BiggBossTelugu hashtag has not trended on X even once in the past week, and on Google Trends the show doesn’t even register under entertainment. Entertainment media, which once lived off Bigg Boss controversies and coverage, now seems completely indifferent. The absence of hype is deafening, and it reflects poorly on Star Maa’s strategy.

The rumored contestant list has only added fuel to the fire. Instead of exciting names, the leaks suggest a roster of forgotten faces and faded personalities with little glamour, no real fan base, and negligible social media influence. A show like Bigg Boss thrives on polarizing characters and bold personalities who spark conversations. If these leaks are true, Season 9 will be reduced to a recycling bin of irrelevance, unable to capture audience imagination.

The bigger picture is hard to ignore: Bigg Boss Telugu appears to be in free fall. After the highs of Season 7, cracks became visible with Season 8’s lackluster run. Now, Season 9 looks destined to underperform — perhaps sinking even lower than the disastrous Season 6. The crown jewel of Star Maa is losing its shine, piece by piece. Unless drastic reinvention happens immediately, Bigg Boss Telugu will not just fade — it will collapse, taking with it the loyalty of millions who once made it a phenomenon.
