The blockbuster Telugu entertainer Sankranthiki Vasthunam, starring Venkatesh, is set to get a Hindi remake, with Akshay Kumar stepping into the lead role. The original, produced by Dil Raju and Sirish under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations, was released during Sankranthi 2025 and went on to become the biggest box office hit of the year.
Directed by Anil Ravipudi, the comedy-drama featured Meenakshi Chaudhary and Aishwarya Rajesh alongside Venkatesh. Around its release, Ravipudi had hinted at a possible sequel to the film but new reports suggest that producer Dil Raju has instead teamed up with a Bollywood production house to remake the hit in Hindi.
Anees Bazmee to Direct the Remake
Acclaimed filmmaker Anees Bazmee, known for blockbuster comedies such as Welcome, No Entry, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, has reportedly been roped in to direct the Hindi version. The rest of the cast and technical crew are yet to be finalized.
Akshay Kumar, who recently began shooting for Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan alongside Saif Ali Khan, is expected to bring his signature comic timing to the remake.
Dil Raju Expands His Bollywood Footprint
The project marks Dil Raju’s third Hindi production, following Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey and Rajkummar Rao’s Hit: The First Case both official remakes of Telugu films not originally produced by him.
However, this isn’t the first time a Dil Raju production has found its way to Bollywood. His debut film Dil, which earned him his famous moniker, was remade in 2003 with Tusshar Kapoor and Anita Hassanandani. His 2006 blockbuster Bommarillu was adapted as It’s My Life, starring Harman Baweja and Genelia D’Souza, though it faced delays and released much later in 2020. More recently, Nani’s Middle Class Abbayi was remade as Nikamma (2022).
A Producer with an Eye for Adaptation
Dil Raju has also successfully adapted films from other languages for Telugu audiences. Notable examples include Vakeel Saab (remake of Pink), Jaanu (remake of 96), and Nootokka Jillala Andagadu (based on Ondu Motteya Kathe).
With the Hindi remake of Sankranthiki Vasthunam now in the works, fans can look forward to seeing how Akshay Kumar and Anees Bazmee reimagine the crowd-pleasing family entertainer for a pan-Indian audience.
