The long-awaited release of Akhanda 2 remains clouded in uncertainty, leaving Nandamuri Balakrishna’s fans deeply disappointed. Going by the current situation, it has become evident that the film will not be hitting theaters on December 12 as initially expected.
Many hoped that Monday would bring clarity or at least some positive update, but nothing of that sort materialized. In fact, insiders say that thinking about a release date itself seems unrealistic at this stage, as the financial dispute has turned far more serious than anticipated.
The primary hurdle appears to be the stance taken by Eros International. While the producers at 14 Reels are reportedly open to resolving the issue through negotiations, Eros is said to be adamant. According to industry sources, Eros has clearly stated, “No discussions without payment.” Out of the pending ₹28 crore, the company is demanding at least ₹20 crore immediately as a condition to move forward. Only after this amount is placed on the table are they willing to even consider talks.
Since yesterday, social media has been buzzing with claims that a few senior industry figures and producers intervened, leading to a breakthrough. Rumors suggested that another producer had adjusted their dues with Eros to help settle the issue, making the path clear for the release. However, these reports have now been dismissed as baseless. Eros, it seems, wants cash no adjustments, no settlements of that sort.
Adding to the complications, a technical barrier has surfaced as well. The producers still haven’t received the complete judgment copy of the court order that halted the film’s release. Even if the financial dispute is resolved, the court must be officially informed, which is impossible without this document. Until this paperwork is complete, the team cannot proceed legally.
The crisis stems from major loans taken by the production house for previous projects, which have now come back to choke the release of Akhanda 2. Emotional support on social media from fellow filmmakers and fans may feel encouraging, but it carries no legal weight. What’s needed right now is ₹20 crore in hard cash. Whether the producers can mobilize this amount in the next couple of days and whether Eros will agree will decide the fate of the film.
As things stand, Akhanda 2 seems to be out of the December 12 race. The wait continues.
