Two of Indian cinema’s biggest stars, Aamir Khan and Jr NTR, will bring the story of Dadasaheb Phalke, the Father of Indian Cinema, to life in two separate biopics. Their announcements have stirred excitement and sparked a thrilling Bollywood vs Tollywood conversation.
Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani Reunite for Untitled Biopic
Aamir Khan recently revealed that he will collaborate once again with filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani for a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke. This marks their third team-up after the iconic films 3 Idiots and PK. They plan to set the story against the backdrop of India’s freedom struggle and spotlight Phalke’s trailblazing journey in founding Indian cinema.
Hirani has spent four years working on the script, along with Abhijat Joshi, Hindukush Bharadwaj, and Avishkar Bharadwaj. The team also gathered rare insights from Chandrashekhar Srikrishna Pusalkar, Phalke’s grandson, to deepen the film’s authenticity.
Aamir will begin shooting the film in October 2025, after the release of his next film Sitaare Zameen Par. He aims to portray Phalke as an emotional, visionary pioneer who forever changed the course of Indian cinema.
Jr NTR Set to Lead SS Rajamouli-Backed Biopic ‘Made in India’
Meanwhile, Jr NTR is seriously considering a second biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke titled Made in India. Director SS Rajamouli announced this project in 2023, with Varun Gupta (Max Studios) and SS Karthikeya (Showing Business) handling production.
Although Jr NTR hasn’t made an official statement, sources claim that the actor read the script and felt deeply inspired. He appears ready to take on a version of Phalke that explores a more stylized and emotional narrative.
The creators aim to show a never-before-seen side of Phalke, focusing on his struggles, dreams, and emotional drive that pushed him to create India’s first feature film.
Biopic Face-Off: Who Will Best Represent Indian Cinema’s First Filmmaker?
With both films in development, fans now wonder, who will deliver the most powerful portrayal of Dadasaheb Phalke? Aamir Khan’s project leans into historical realism and drama, while Jr NTR’s version looks set to deliver a more emotional, visually driven experience.
This rare situation of two top actors portraying the same legend has fueled massive buzz across social media. Film lovers now eagerly await to see which biopic will leave a lasting mark, and who will truly capture the heart of the man who gave India its first cinema.
