Nawazuddin Garu.. welcome to the Telugu industry
Thank you.
Your performance won the attention of the audience all over the country, Why did it take you so long to enter Telugu?
Every actor waits for a good story. I, too, waited for the right script. It ended with ‘Saindhav’. This is a very interesting story. Working with Venkatesh is a dream for anyone. It is a pleasure to work with him.
Now you have reduced the villain roles. Is there a special reason to appear as a villain in Saindhav?
I have never seen the role of villain or hero. What matters is whether the character is interesting or not. Sometimes there is more opportunity to perform in negative roles than in positive roles. Director Shailesh has designed a very unique role in Saindhav. A character with a lot of potential to act.
Didn’t they say dubbing for the first movie? What is the inspiration for this? What challenges did you face in learning the Telugu language?
Director Shailesh gave inspiration in this matter. I don’t like dubbing my performances. The character doesn’t have that much depth. My role is in Hyderabad. The character speaks both Hindi and a little Telugu. Justice will be done only if I dub the character. I said I understood the language and meaning. Learning any new language can be difficult at first. It gets easier as you get to know the language. I don’t believe in prompting. I like to learn and say how difficult my dialogues are. I learned everything like that in Saindhav too.
Do you watch Telugu movies?
I have seen many Telugu movies. I will watch Venkatesh’s family subject. I also saw his movie Anari in Hindi.
As an actor, others learn a lot from you. So what kind of things did you learn from Venkatesh?
There is a lot to learn from every actor. Venkatesh is very cool. Always looks calm. They learn all the dialogue before coming to the location. A lot of risks were taken in the action scenes. He did the action himself without any dupe. He is a very intense character in this. I learned many things from him during this journey. Especially he has more patience. It must be learned from him.
This is Venkatesh’s 75th film. How did you feel about the part?
Working with Venkatesh was a great experience. In this, Venkatesh will be seen in a very different role. Venky will be seen in a new avatar. Happy to be a part of his 75th film.
About the director Shailesh?
Shailesh is a very professional director. He has a lot of clarity. Editing is also in his mind. He has complete clarity about how much to shoot. He improvised my character a lot. He improved wherever possible. As soon as he narrated the story, he was sure that this film would be a big hit. He shot the film as brilliantly as he told the story. It is only five years since he entered the film industry. But a very unprecedented experience appears in him. He has complete clarity on all matters.
What do you find challenging in this?
It is a heavy-action movie. Doing the action sequences was a bit of a challenge. When you watch it you get a sense of how hard the action is.
A memorable moment for you?
Can’t forget the Sri Lankan schedule. We are shooting the boat action sequence in the ocean. Going fast on the boat. Suddenly there was a big wave. So I left the boat and went up with it. Fortunately. I landed in the boat again. (Laughs) That scene is in the movie. The audience will enjoy that sequence a lot.
How is your character length in this?
I worked on this film for about 40 days. I am very satisfied with my role. Very good character. We are sure that the audience will enjoy it.
About Saindhav Production House?
Niharika Entertainment is a very professional production house. I want to act in their films in the future.
What difference have you noticed in the working style of Tollywood and Bollywood?
Tollywood is very professional. The timing is good here.
Do you have friends in the Telugu industry?
I spoke with Nani Garu and Rana Garu. When we met with them, we shared many things about acting.
Do you have a dream role?
Osho’s role is to be played. If I get a chance I will do his biopic.
