The ongoing political battle over electoral procedures is gaining momentum, with a major protest taking place at Bengaluru’s Freedom Park on Thursday. The protest witnessed the participation of prominent voices including CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, Sourav Das, actor Prakash Raj and popular YouTuber-activist Dhruv Rathee, bringing considerable attention to the movement.
Dhruv Rathee’s presence became one of the major talking points of the protest. Returning to India after spending recent years largely outside the country, Rathee openly criticised Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and joined the demand for his resignation. His participation has given the campaign an added boost, particularly because of his large following and his long-standing criticism of the Narendra Modi-led government.
During the protest, Rathee questioned the implementation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and raised concerns over the deletion of a large number of voters in West Bengal. He also challenged BJP supporters to respond to the allegations surrounding the electoral process, while arguing that questions over the functioning of the Election Commission need wider public attention.
The protest comes ahead of the next phase of the movement, with organisers planning a larger mobilisation from October 10. A massive march towards Delhi and the Election Commission office is reportedly being planned, potentially taking the campaign to a much bigger national stage. With prominent personalities now joining the protests, the political pressure on CEC Gyanesh Kumar and the central leadership could intensify further in the coming days.
