External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is once again making headlines for his direct response to a question on terrorism. During a media event at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Jaishankar responded sharply after a Pakistani journalist raised an allegation against India.
Jaishankar was addressing an official press briefing alongside Liberia’s foreign minister on shipping safety when the incident occurred. Towards the end of the event, a Pakistani reporter interrupted from the audience and questioned when the Indian government would stop what he described as sponsoring terrorist activities inside Pakistan.
Jaishankar immediately hit back with a pointed response, saying, “A terrorist country is asking me that question. Come on.” His brief exchange with the journalist quickly drew attention, with clips of the moment circulating widely on social media.
The incident reportedly took place during an event that was not scheduled as a conventional question-and-answer session. The exchange has since become a talking point online, particularly in the context of the long-running diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan.
Jaishankar is leading India’s delegation during the high-level week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, where India is engaging with international leaders and representatives on a range of global issues.
