Deepfake Controversy: Mrunal Thakur Takes a Stand Against Online Abuse

Actress Mrunal Thakur has strongly reacted after allegedly morphed and AI-generated images of her surfaced on social media. The actress, who is currently enjoying a successful phase in her career with multiple projects in hand, called the circulation of such content “unauthorized and unlawful” and warned of strict legal consequences.

The controversy began after an entertainment page on X (formerly Twitter) allegedly shared manipulated images of Mrunal in a derogatory manner. Responding to the post, the actress demanded that the content be removed immediately, stating that the images were fake and violated her rights. She further cautioned that anyone involved in creating or circulating the content could face formal legal complaints and appropriate legal action.

Mrunal’s response has once again highlighted the growing concern over the misuse of artificial intelligence and image-editing technology to create deepfake content targeting celebrities. Several actresses in the Indian film industry have previously faced similar incidents, raising serious questions about online safety, privacy, and digital ethics.

In recent years, actresses including Rashmika Mandanna have also spoken out after becoming victims of AI-generated or morphed content, prompting wider discussions about stricter regulations against digital impersonation and image manipulation.

Despite Mrunal’s public condemnation, the controversial images reportedly continue to circulate online, and it remains to be seen whether authorities or the concerned platforms will take action against those responsible.

On the professional front, Mrunal Thakur was recently seen in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai and Dacoit. She also has several promising projects lined up and is rumoured to be part of Allu Arjun’s upcoming film Raaka. An official confirmation regarding the project is still awaited.
