Akhil Akkineni has bounced back with a much-needed box office success as his latest film Lenin recorded a solid opening weekend across the globe. The action drama grossed an estimated Rs 37 crore worldwide in its first three days, making it the biggest opening weekend of Akhil’s career.
Directed by Murali Kishor Abburu, Lenin is jointly produced by Nagarjuna Akkineni and Suryadevara Naga Vamsi. The film features Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead alongside Akhil.
Out of the total worldwide gross, the film collected around Rs 29 crore from the Indian market, while the overseas box office contributed nearly Rs 8 crore, reflecting a healthy response from audiences both in India and abroad.
In North America, Lenin has already crossed the $500K milestone, earning an estimated $540K during its opening weekend. Trade circles believe the film has a strong chance of finishing its theatrical run with around $1 million, provided it maintains a steady hold during the weekdays.
The film’s success is particularly significant for Akhil Akkineni, who stayed away from the big screen for almost three years after the disappointing performance of Agent. The actor invested considerable time in preparing for Lenin, while his father Nagarjuna Akkineni actively participated in promotions and expressed confidence in the film’s success.
With an encouraging first weekend behind it, all eyes are now on the weekday collections. If Lenin continues to attract audiences over the coming days, it could emerge as Akhil Akkineni’s biggest commercial hit to date.
