Satluj Ban Controversy: Why Was Diljit Dosanjh’s Film Taken Off ZEE5?

By TeluguFunda / July 6, 2026

Before its release, Satluj had already endured a long and difficult journey. Starring Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role, the film remained unreleased in theatres for nearly two years due to censorship-related hurdles. After an extended battle, the makers eventually opted for a direct OTT release on ZEE5, where it began streaming just a few days ago.

However, the film’s digital run has now come to an abrupt halt. ZEE5 has officially removed Satluj from its platform, leaving viewers disappointed. In a statement shared with audiences, the streaming service confirmed that the film has been taken down due to ongoing legal issues and assured fans that efforts are underway to bring it back as soon as possible.

Directed by Honey Trehan, Satluj is inspired by the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who exposed the unauthorized cremation of thousands of unidentified bodies in Punjab during the late 1980s amid the Khalistan movement. The film also features Arjun Rampal in a pivotal role.

Following the success of Dhurandhar, Diljit Dosanjh has once again earned widespread appreciation for portraying a socially relevant character. His performance in Satluj has received positive responses from viewers and critics alike, with many praising the film’s emotional depth and powerful storytelling.

Despite being removed from ZEE5, several scenes from the film particularly those depicting events linked to the Khalistan movement have surfaced online and sparked intense discussions across social media platforms.

As of now, neither Diljit Dosanjh, director Honey Trehan, nor other members of the cast have issued any public statement regarding the film’s removal. Given the sensitive subject matter and the legal complications surrounding it, all eyes are now on whether Satluj will return to streaming in the coming days.
