The much-awaited Kannada multistarrer 45, starring Shivarajkumar, Upendra, and Raj B Shetty, has finally locked its release date after months of delay. Popular music composer Arjun Janya makes his directorial debut with this fantasy action drama, and the team officially confirmed that the movie will hit theatres on December 25, 2025, as a Christmas release.
The makers had first planned to release the film on Independence Day 2025, but they postponed it because of heavy post-production work. Since the team created nearly 40% of the film using visual effects, the delay became unavoidable.
Marz Studios in Canada handles the VFX and went through several rounds of corrections before agreeing to deliver the final output by September. To allow extra time for revisions, they kept a buffer month. Based on this timeline, producer Ramesh Reddy fixed the Christmas release date and assured fans that the schedule will not change again.
45 Set for Pan-India Release
The team will release 45 across India in five languages – Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi. In Karnataka, the film will enjoy a solo festive run since no other big Kannada movie has scheduled a Christmas release. In other markets, the film will face tough competition. In Hindi, Alia Bhatt’s Alpha will release on the same day, while in Telugu, Adivi Sesh’s Dacoit will compete directly. To make things even more challenging, James Cameron’s next Avatar installment will release just days before and dominate the global box office.
Plot Inspired by a Personal Loss
Arjun Janya drew inspiration for 45 from his late brother, who passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic. The film explores the 45-day journey of a soul after death, a phase in Sanatana Dharma that decides whether the soul takes rebirth or attains liberation. By blending this spiritual concept with fantasy and action elements, the team aims to deliver a unique cinematic experience.
Why Christmas Release Matters
Christmas has consistently delivered success for big Kannada films in recent years. In 2023, Darshan’s Kaatera struck gold at the box office. In 2024, Sudeep’s Max became the highest grosser of the year after releasing during Christmas. With three major stars leading 45, the makers believe the festive timing will bring them similar success, especially across South India.
45 brings together star power, emotional depth, and grand VFX work to create a true spectacle. With the team fixing the release date for December 25, 2025, fans across India can confidently mark their calendars for one of the most ambitious Kannada films in recent years.
