In a devastating incident, at least 42 Indian Umrah pilgrims lost their lives in Saudi Arabia after a passenger bus collided with a diesel tanker early Monday morning, around 1:30 AM IST. According to initial media reports, a majority of the victims are believed to be from Hyderabad.
The bus was en route from Mecca to Madina, carrying pilgrims who had completed their Umrah rituals and were resting during the journey. Reports suggest that most passengers were asleep when the fatal crash occurred. Among the deceased are an estimated 20 women and 11 children, all believed to be residents of Hyderabad.
Emergency teams and local residents rushed to the accident site to assist those critically injured. Rescue operations are currently underway, and efforts are being made to transport survivors to nearby hospitals.
While the exact toll is yet to be officially confirmed, local sources indicate that over 40 passengers died on the spot due to the impact of the collision. The bus is said to have been carrying pilgrims from Hyderabad as well as other regions of Telangana.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of the accident. However, both the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the concerned travel agency have acknowledged the incident. More details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
