Ex-IAS officer Vijay Kumar, in his latest interview, said that there is an under-appreciated reason behind the YSRCP’s rout in the recent Assembly elections. As someone who travelled more than two thousand kilometers to listen to what the masses were thinking in hundreds of villages in Andhra Pradesh, Vijay Kumar said, he knew what was going wrong in the State.
“People were too scared to express themselves during Jagan’s reign. When they were in a crowd, they would say everything was going fine. But once the crowds were gone, they would come to me and say that they were too frightened to speak the truth owing to the fear of intimidation and revenge politics. Our people are used to enjoying some non-negotiable freedoms like Freedom of Speech. This is not Afghanistan. You can’t expect people to remain mum forever. So, when they got the chance, they threw out the government,” Vijay Kumar said, adding that he foresaw the YSRCP’s defeat much earlier.
