In a recent podcast, acclaimed Tamil director Karthik Subbaraj of ‘Jigarthanda’ fame said that we have reached a point where even kids are concerned with box office collections, a culture he deems unhealthy.
The ‘Jigarthanda DoubleX’ director an incident involving his sister’s school-going son. “We went to watch ‘The GOAT’ recently. After the movie was over, the boy predicted that the movie would trump the collections of ‘Jailer’. I asked him why was he bothered. Even small kids are talking about collections of movies these days,” the ‘Mahaan’ maker lamented.
Something similar was voiced by Natural Star Nani a couple of years ago. “In the past, we used to enjoy movies for what they were. None of us were really concerned with the money they made. That sort of experience is missing these days,” the actor said.
BO trackers have gained in prominence over the years. Since ‘Baahubali 2’, the even general audience with no affiliations to any particular hero are increasingly obsessed about the numbers.
