Recently, Suresh Babu and Rana Daggubati had to defend the use of the Tamil-language title ‘Vittaiyan’ for the Telugu version. They said that ‘Vetagaadu’ was not available for use. ‘Kanguva’ and ‘Raayan’ are two of the other Tamil titles for the Telugu version. They even cared to explain the title because they hoped such an explanation might generate some negative publicity for their film.
‘Amaran’ will be released in Telugu as it is. It is the common title for both Tamil and Telugu versions. The film, starring Sivakarthiekyan and Sai Pallavi in the lead, is an October 31st release.
Probably, the industry knows that Tamil-language titles don’t sound as alien to the audience as made out by the media. ‘Sathyam Sundaram’ didn’t gain buzz despite its good content and Telugu title.
Retaining the same title across languages is helping the makers with marketing. In the age of OTT, it serves them the best if they go for the same title across languages. Films like ‘Brahmastra’ and ‘Adipurush’ were released in Telugu with the same title.
