Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s divorce has been politicized lately. Minister Konda Surekha is facing a defamation suit filed by Akkineni Nagarjuna. Telugu film industry stalwarts like Chiranjeevi, Prabhas and Mahesh Babu have backed a campaign against Surekha for making derogatory utterances about what caused the Naga Chaitanya-Samantha divorce in 2021. The MAA and TFCC have also joined forces.
The TFI’s campaign is not out of sensitivity towards Samantha but out of respect for the Akkineni family. A Twitter user reminds everyone that Samantha’s recent demand that a sub-committee report that exposed the prevalence of sexual harassment in Tollywood remains unacknowledged till date. Samantha’s demand came in the wake of the Hema Committee Report threatening to shake up the Malayalam film industry.

Reports, however, say that the MAA is working in the background to ensure that the said report comes out soon. The campaign for justice to female victims is not as vocal and vehement as the #FilmIndustryWillNotTolerate campaign. Effectively, the issue raised by Samantha will be brushed under the carpet, sceptics say.
